Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it take to do the Open Water Course?

You'll have an eLearning course that you complete at home in your own time.

We then allow 5 -7 lessons in the pool. You complete the course over a weekend at the training lake.

Where and when are the classes?

The pool sessions are:

Monday Evenings, 8pm-945pm at Wymondham Leisure Centre,

Norwich Rd, Wymondham NR18 0NT

Saturday Mornings, 8am-1030am at PETANS,

Imperial Way, Horsham St Faith, Norwich NR10 3GJ

Lake visits are one weekend a month at Stoney Cove,

Sapcote Road, Stoney Stanton, Leicester, LE94DW

Do I have to attend every lesson?

No you don't. We make sure that you master all the skills before we book you on a lake visit.

You can pick to attend on Thursdays and/or Saturday.

If possible we ask that you attend without skipping a week, but we can be flexible.

What about COVID?

Whilst in the water and wearing scuba gear we are super safe, we each have own own independent air supply.

We carefully observe distancing whilst out of the pool.

All of our equipment is numbered and we keep a log of who wears what. It is all thoroughly disinfected between uses.

We have enough equipment that you should never end up using something that someone else used the week before.

All of the instructors have taken part in extra COVID training, including changing some of the skills we teach to make them safer.

What does the price include?

For the open water course we include everything including your lake entry fees and air refills whilst at the lake.

If you need to cancel once a booking has been made you may be liable to pay a new booking fee.

For all other courses we include the course itself, any learning materials and the final certification.

How old do you have to be?

From age 8 we can teach kids in the pool.

We are allowed to teach the full openwater course from age 10.

However, our experience has led us to set our own minimum limit of 12 years.

There is no upper limit.

I have a medical condition, does that matter?

We ask everyone to complete a medical declaration before training.

We aren't medical professionals, so if you have any issues then we will ask that you get a signed medical from a Doctor.

Please contact us with any specific questions about this.

What equipment do I need?

Our course prices include the use of our kit during training.

When you are ready to start buying your own we can help you, please ask.

Scuba kit needs to be right, please don't rush to buy things online only to find that they are unsuitable.

Do I need to be a good swimmer?

You need to be able to swim 8 lengths of a 25M pool, it isn't timed.

You'll also need to stay afloat for a 10 minute interval.

We will be there to check you are safe during the whole swim test.

That will be the most physical that it gets, scuba is pretty easy going.

How cold is the lake?

We only take people to train at the lake when the temperatures aren't going to be unpleasant.

We will take more experienced divers in the cooler months if asked.

If you'd rather do all of your training in warm water then ask us about the referral option, for any main course.

Why are you called Scuba Libre?

When Karl founded the club he wanted to give it the same feeling of the lovely diving he had done in the Caribbean.

If you mix a lovely shot of rum with some coke and lime you get Cuba Libre.
